Tom Kelley, P.E.
Tom Kelley is president, chairman of the board and chief executive officer of Gage Brothers Concrete Products. Kelley has served in his current role since 2001.
A 38-year company veteran, he has been instrumental in the company's evolution through ongoing strategic planning sales strategy and product research to provide Gage Brothers clients with the highest quality product solutions available. Kelley also provides critical leadership to more than 250 employees as Gage Brothers undergoes a company culture transition and moves all operations into a new $40 million precast manufacturing facility.
Kelley has established relationships throughout the precast concrete and construction industries. A highly-skilled engineer, he gained broad international experience through serving as a precast engineering consultant for a large housing project in New Delhi (2011) and a precast manufacturing facility in Saudi Arabia (2016-17), the latter of which will soon be under construction.
For nearly 30 years, Kelley has demonstrated exceptionally high degrees of professional ethics, service and dedication to the Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute (PCI). He was a member of the PCI Architectural Committee from 1989-2011, which he also chaired for several years. In addition, Kelley founded PCI’s International Committee in 2013 and served as the group’s chairman until 2016.
Kelley was a member of the PCI Board of Directors from 2008-09 before completing the board’s chair/role rotation from 2011-2014, ultimately serving as board chairman in 2013 and immediate past chair the following year. He is also a long-standing AltusGroup member and the current Vice Chair of the National PCI Foundation Board of Trustees. Kelley was named a PCI Fellow in 2017.
One of South Dakota’s leading champions of workforce development, Kelley is a co-chair of Southeast Technical Institute’s NOW (New Opportunities for Workforce Development) Campaign, a $6.2 million, five-year campaign that aspires to bring in more potential students and produce a greater number of skilled graduates to meet the demands of the Sioux Falls workforce.
In 2012, Kelley served as co-chair of “Build it Now Sioux Falls,” a full-scale ballot campaign that enabled construction of the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center—a publicly-owned events center that has topped $2 million in net operating income each of the past two years.
In addition, Kelley is the current chair of the Sanford USD Medical Center board of directors and an active member of the Sioux Falls Development Foundation. His previous board service in the Sioux Falls community includes Lutheran Outdoors and the Southeast Tech Foundation.
A leading voice in the Sioux Falls business community, Kelley was a co-presenter at the 2018 South Dakota Manufacturers' Day Summit. His passion for learning and connecting with young people has made Kelley a frequent guest lecturer at local colleges, including South Dakota State University, South Dakota School of Mines and Technology and the University of Sioux Falls.
A native of South Dakota, Kelley holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology. He has been a licensed Professional Engineer in South Dakota since 1985 and was honored as the NSPE South Dakota Young Engineer of the Year in 1986.
